Hong Kong

Virtual-asset platforms & Asian business operations

Consider Hong Kong for an Asian business base or a virtual-asset trading-platform model. Review platform licensing separately from company formation and payment access.

Why consider Hong Kong?

The SFC publishes a dedicated virtual-asset trading-platform framework and operator information. It provides a basis for evaluating platform permissions and the obligations attached to a proposed business.

Crypto services

A VATP licence concerns specified trading-platform activities. Do not assume it covers every custody, token, payment or investment service under one permission.

PSP, fiat and payment services

Fiat settlement, remittance and stored-value functions need a separate assessment of their regulatory and banking arrangements.

Company formation and operations

A conventional software or service company and a regulated trading platform have different needs. Establish which entity contracts with clients and carries each responsibility.

Tax, incentives and the full cost

Request a review of income source, operations, owner residence and any relevant foreign-sourced-income rules. Incorporation alone does not prove that income is offshore or exempt.

Compare three figures: setup cost, the cost to operate for a year, and the tax outcome for both company and owner. Any incentive should state its eligibility conditions and be confirmed for your facts before it is included in a proposal.

Banking and provider fit

Check the specific bank’s acceptance of the business, customer markets, settlement assets and ownership. Platform status does not guarantee account access.

Providers serving several countries may list under Global / multiple markets or European Union / EEA. Confirm that a provider serves your actual market.

CHOOSING THE COMPANY OR PROVIDER

Compare what makes the offer work.

The country is one decision. The company, permissions, people and commercial terms are the next.

01What you actually receive
Company shares or assets, an application service, a partner contract or software. Ask for inclusions, exclusions and the party responsible for delivery.
02Permissions and operating history
For a regulated company or provider, confirm the current registry entry, exact services, restrictions, liabilities and any change-of-control conditions.
03The full cost to operate
Compare price, capital, local staff, compliance, accounting, software, banking fees and any reserves. Include the conditions and timing of any claimed tax benefit.
04Banking and technology continuity
Confirm account and partner acceptance, settlement terms, code and data ownership, service support and what must be re-approved after a transaction.
